JSTOR (www.jstor.org) seeks a Chief Information Officer (CIO) to provide technological and operational leadership within this exciting, forward-thinking entrepreneurial enterprise. We strive to be rapid and innovative adapters of new technologies that can benefit the academic community in its use of information resources. The ideal candidate has a broad awareness of new information management technologies, has a track record of successfully advocating for and implementing technology strategically in an environment of change and has demonstrated ability in the integration of functional units. A successful CIO will have strong experience in managing publishing or similar operations, with an emphasis on knowledge of production processes, digitization standards, website interface development, and the technologies that underlie these systems. The CIO will be a member of JSTOR's senior management team, and will be based in the Ann Arbor office. The CIO will report to the Executive Director (ED), who is based in New York, and will be expected to communicate routinely and travel often for meetings with the ED and/or other JSTOR staff and management.
The Organization: JSTOR is a not-for-profit pioneer dedicated to creating and preserving a digital archive of scholarly information resources and to helping the scholarly community benefit for advances in information technology. Currently, JSTOR archives and provides access to over 600 scholarly journals in 40 academic disciplines. Researchers and students at licensed institutions access the archive via the Internet. The JSTOR database now includes more than 22 million journal pages, and is available at more than 3,200 institutions in over 100 countries around the world. JSTOR is headquartered in New York, NY with additional offices in Ann Arbor, MI. The Job Description: The CIO will oversee the operations of, and set the strategic direction for, JSTOR's production, infrastructure, technology, interface, and quality assurance processes as well as be responsible for the following:
Required Skills and Experience: The CIO must demonstrate excellent leadership, communication, and management skills and should have a minimum of 10 years experience managing software development and technology infrastructure teams.
