Library Relations Outreach Associate, ARTstor

JSTOR is a not-for-profit organization engaged in the digitization of important
academic journals into electronic format, combining them in an archive, and
providing access to the archive to researchers via the Internet through site
licenses with libraries. JSTOR is headquartered in New York, NY and also has
offices in Ann Arbor, MI. JSTOR is in a unique position in that it provides
support to ARTstor and this position will focus on the ARTstor initiative.
ARTstor is a non-profit whose mission is to use digital technology to enhance
scholarship, teaching and learning in the arts, humanities, and other fields.
As part of a community-wide effort to further this goal, ARTstor builds, continually
develops and distributes a digital library of images and related information
that aims to serve the needs of researchers, teachers and students. ARTstor works
closely with both providers and users of content from educational and cultural
institutions around the world to construct a non-profit, community resource.

The Library Relations Outreach Associate, ARTstor, will have primary responsibility
for expanding ARTstor participation within the research community. This community
consists of not-for-profit research institutions in the United States, including
U.S. colleges and universities, as well as the international not-for-profit research
community. This position will require some domestic and international travel
(20% of time), and will demand a self-motivated, organized, team player.
The Outreach Associate will report directly to the Associate Director for Library
Relations, ARTstor.
Primary Duties:
- Work with the Director of Library Relations and the Associate
Director for Library Relations to meet and exceed participation
and revenue goals on an annual basis;
- Communicating ARTstor's mission, outreach messages and participation
fee rationale to the target communities;
- Help identify new outreach opportunities in the international
academic community;
- Facilitating participation in ARTstor at the institutional level
(via the Library) by providing librarians with useful strategies
for promoting ARTstor as a campus-wide resource;
- Working with the Library Relations unit and the ARTstor User
Services unit to develop appropriate processes and procedures
for the effective licensing of, invoicing of, and establishing
access for these participants;
- Representing ARTstor at conferences/meetings deemed appropriate
for this community.
Specific Duties and Projects:
- Work with the Associate Director for Library Relations to
meet and exceed participation and revenue goals on an annual
basis;
- Meet regularly with ARTstor User Services for product and
service updates, as well as gathering community feedback;
- Manage participation interest from the research community
by:
- Responding, via email and telephone, to participation inquiries
via the ARTstor website
- Tracking contact information and "pipeline" status
in Talisma
- Guiding interested institutions through the participation
process
- Negotiating and executing License Agreements
- Working with User Services to establish access to the database
- Giving remote demos of ARTstor via Webex or other live conference
software
- Setting up trial access for interested institutions
- Participate in ARTstor and JSTOR-sponsored conferences, workshops,
and training sessions;
- In coordination with the Associate Director, identify appropriate
speaking engagements and publishing opportunities for ARTstor
in the community.
Specific Duties and Projects:
- Work closely with the Associate Director to review and improve
the various forms of written correspondence from ARTstor (letters,
email, template messages) on a regular basis to ensure that the appropriate
message and tone is conveyed in a consistent fashion;
- Assist with updating and maintaining the Talisma database (entering new
contact information and maintaining an accurate history of ARTstor-related
correspondence) as needed;
- Assist with the updating, editing and creating of all ARTstor marketing
materials (Word, Excel and Dreamweaver) on a regular basis;
- Assist with the preparation and execution of ARTstor mailings (for example,
announcements concerning collections/clusters);
- Assist with the maintenance of any ARTstor-related listservs as needed;
- Participate in monthly Library Relations meetings.
Required Skills:
- Experience with and understanding of the higher education and library communities
- Bachelor's Degree required;
- Knowledge of Art History or related cultural field;
- Three to five years' progressive work experience, preferably in a not-for-profit
environment;
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy;
- Strong people skills, including negotiation;
- Solid experience with computers and use of the Internet required;
- Fluency in MS Office XP (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook), Talisma Customer
Relations Management Software, and Windows 2000 or XP is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills;
- Ability to perform with minimal supervision and to prioritize diverse work
assignments;
- Ability to perform well under pressure;
- Strong commitment and interest in ARTstor's mission and international outreach
efforts.
Desired Skills:
- Foreign language skills desired, but not required;
- International experience ? communicating with and understanding and respecting
different cultures;
- Experience in academic library community;
- Masters in Library Science preferred but not required
