Participation Fees for Government and Non-Profit Research Institutions

Biological Sciences Collection

The Biological Sciences Collection will include at least one hundred journals when completed at the end of 2007. This collection brings together the twenty-nine journals available in our existing Ecology & Botany Collection with more than seventy titles new to JSTOR. Coverage in this collection offers greater depth in fields such as biodiversity, conservation, paleontology, and plant science, in addition to introducing new areas such as cell biology and zoology.

In developing this collection, we have partnered with two leading organizations in biological sciences publishing, the Ecological Society of America (ESA) and BioOne. Similar to the assistance they provided with development of JSTOR's Ecology & Botany Collection, the ESA assembled a committee of scholars to review and recommend journals to us, in addition to taking the lead in securing a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to digitize a portion of the collection. BioOne has joined this collaboration by facilitating the inclusion of many BioOne participating publications in the collection. In the future, cross-site searching and article-level links between BioOne and JSTOR will be established.

Government and Non-Profit Research Institutions will pay a one time only Archive Capital Fee (ACF) and an ongoing Annual Access Fee (AAF) for each collection. The ACF is designed to help ensure that JSTOR has the necessary resources to meet its archival obligation as technology evolves. The ACF is paid once only, upon licensing an institution's first JSTOR collection. With the licensing of subsequent collections, no further ACF will be required. For further information, please see Archive Capital Fees for Government and Non-Profit Research Institiutions.

Government and Non-Profit Research Institutions will contribute an Annual Access Fee for participation in each of the collections that they select. The AAF helps cover the recurring costs of updating the archive, and maintaining access and support services for participating institutions. Please see JSTOR Classifications for an explanation of the five classes of Government and Non-Profit Research Institutions.

JSTOR participants that have already chosen to participate in Ecology & Botany Collection may choose to migrate their participation to the Biological Sciences Collection.

Institutions may participate in Biological Sciences at any time and in any combination with other JSTOR collections.
