In September 2006 the General Science Collection was renamed the Health & General Sciences Collection to reflect the inclusion of several journals in the health sciences. In addition to the seven titles from the original collection introduced in 2000—Science, PNAS, and the publications of the Royal Society of London—the expanded collection will include prestigious titles such as American Journal of Nursing, Journal of Community Health Nursing, Cancer Causes and Control, and Environmental Health Perspectives, as well as a cluster of titles in epidemiology, including Epidemiology, Epidemiology and Infection, and European Journal of Epidemiology. This collection has the greatest historical depth of any JSTOR offering—pre-dating others by more than 100 years— with the inclusion of the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London which began publishing in 1665.
In September 2006 the first three health titles were released into this collection. These are the American Journal of Nursing (began publication in 1900), Environmental Health Perspectives (began 1972) and the Journal of Community Health Nursing (began 1984).
At least ten new titles will be added over the next two years. There is no overlap with any Arts & Sciences Collection or the Biological Sciences Collection. Participation fees for this collection will remain unchanged. Please see Upcoming Journals for a list of additional titles that will be included in the future.
Government and Non-Profit Research Institutions will pay a one time only Archive Capital Fee (ACF) and an ongoing Annual Access Fee (AAF) for each collection. The ACF is designed to help ensure that JSTOR has the necessary resources to meet its archival obligation as technology evolves. The ACF is paid once only, upon licensing an institution's first JSTOR collection. With the licensing of subsequent collections, no further ACF will be required. For further information, please see Archive Capital Fees for Government and Non-Profit Research Institiutions.
Government and Non-Profit Research Institutions will contribute an Annual Access Fee for participation in each of the collections that they select. The AAF helps cover the recurring costs of updating the archive, and maintaining access and support services for participating institutions. Please see JSTOR Classifications for an explanation of the five classes of Government and Non-Profit Research Institutions.
Institutions may participate in Health & General Sciences at any time and in any combination with other JSTOR collections.
