Participation Fees for Government and Non-Profit Research Institutions

Language & Literature Collection

JSTOR is pleased to have had the support of the Modern Language Association in the creation and production of the Language & Literature Collection, which contains a total of fifty-eight journals and adds nearly 1.3 million new pages to the JSTOR archive. The journals span the literary cultures of many different countries, and contain articles in several languages, including Arabic, Italian, and German. Through this collection, users can also gain insight into the interests of literary scholars in the first half of the twentieth century. In PMLA, for instance, readers can discover articles about the disinterment of Milton's remains (1930), how Washington Irving's German tour influenced his tales (1930) and how the French humanists of the Renaissance learned Greek (1950). Additionally, the Language & Literature Collection includes core journals in the diverse fields of literary criticism that have emerged in the last thirty years. Tulsa Studies in Women's Literature, founded by renowned feminist Germaine Greer in 1982, for example, has been key in uncovering a rich female literary tradition, featuring unpublished letters by Virginia Woolf and a previously unknown travel essay by Edith Wharton.

Government and Non-Profit Research Institutions will pay a one time only Archive Capital Fee (ACF) and an ongoing Annual Access Fee (AAF) for each collection. The ACF is designed to help ensure that JSTOR has the necessary resources to meet its archival obligation as technology evolves. The ACF is paid once only, upon licensing an institution's first JSTOR collection. With the licensing of subsequent collections, no further ACF will be required. For further information, please see Archive Capital Fees for Government and Non-Profit Research Institiutions.

Government and Non-Profit Research Institutions will contribute an Annual Access Fee for participation in each of the collections that they select. The AAF helps cover the recurring costs of updating the archive, and maintaining access and support services for participating institutions. Please see JSTOR Classifications for an explanation of the five classes of Government and Non-Profit Research Institutions.

The Language & Literature titles are also available as part of either the Arts & Sciences I or the Arts & Sciences III Collections. Thirteen Language & Literature titles exist also in Arts & Sciences I; while forty-five are included in Arts & Sciences III. Institutions may participate in Language & Literature or in both Arts & Sciences I and Arts & Sciences III.

Institutions may participate in the Language & Literature Collection at any time and in any combination with other JSTOR collections.
