JSTOR Participants' Meeting Summary, 2007 ALA Midwinter Meeting

At this Midwinter's meeting, we were especially glad to welcome guest speakers from two of JSTOR's affiliate organizations. Thomas Nygren, Executive Director of Aluka (www.aluka.org) introduced the initiative, which is partnering with an international network of libraries and archives to build a sustainable digital library of scholarly resources from and about the developing world, beginning in Africa. Kevin Guthrie and Roger Schonfeld from Ithaka (www.ithaka.org) discussed results from a recent librarian survey conducted in the summer of 2006. Ithaka and JSTOR commissioned this survey of librarians at colleges and universities in the United States to learn about their attitudes and preferences related to electronic research and teaching resources, and responses were received from more than 370 library directors and collection development directors from a range of small to large academic libraries.

In addition to our guest speakers, Michael Spinella and Kimberly Lutz of JSTOR provided updates on participation, collection development strategy, and new technology projects designed to enhance content discovery.
