Reference Linking

While using JSTOR, it is possible to link from citations within some articles directly to other articles in JSTOR. There are currently three ways you can use reference links:

Reference Links on the Article Page Image

There are two places to find reference links on an article page image:

On the Page Image

Links on the page image are denoted by a red arrow to the left of the reference text. Click on the red arrow or on the reference text to follow the link to the first page of the referenced article.

If a single linked reference contains multiple citations, the link will open a new window that lists each of the citations.

Beneath the Page Image

All linked references on the current page are listed beneath the page image in text format. Click on the title of the referenced article to follow the link to the first page of the referenced article in JSTOR.

Reference Links on the "Article Information" Page

On the "Article Information" page, a complete list of referenced citations for an article, both linked and unlinked, are listed beneath the article abstract in text format.

For linked references, click on the title of the referenced article to follow the link to the first page of the referenced article.

Reference Links with the PDF

In the PDF file, all linked, referenced citations for an article are listed on the last page(s) of the pdf document or printout.

After downloading a PDF, you can click on the active stable URL of a referenced article in this list to follow the link to the first page of the referenced article.

To copy and paste a stable URL from the PDF, be sure to use the "Text Select" tool in the Acrobat toolbar.
