Throughout its nearly four decades of publication, The Journal of British Studies has been recognized as North America's premier publication for the study of British history and civilization. JBS publishes research articles and thematic review essays by an array of international authors in history, literature, and allied disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. Contributors cover fields that include social history, religion, economics, law, demographics, and gender and cultural studies. JBS also explores the changing character and significance of British culture in Britain itself and in areas of the world previously contained within the ambit of the British Empire - ranging chronologically from the Middle Ages to the present. A semi-annual publication since 1961, JBS became a quarterly in 1985.
