Journal Information for 19th-Century Music

Publisher: University of California Press

Moving Wall: 3

The "long" nineteenth century, between 1780 and 1920, gave rise to an unusually fruitful and distinctive period of music. Well-known composers such as Chopin, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Berlioz, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky - joined by folk and vernacular musicians - committed a large body of remarkable work for posterity, investigation, and analysis.

Calling upon the interdisciplinary nature of musical expression, 19th-Century Music records the social and cultural context of music produced during the century, featuring articles on such topics as composition, theory, performance, documentary, gender/sexuality, and historiography. The journal also provides readers with book reviews and a "Comment & Chronicle" section for the newest trends in nineteenth-century musical scholarship.

A forceful, lively platform for critique, 19th-Century Music is an essential resource for the musicologist and music lover alike.
