Established in 1953, the African Studies Center at Boston University is one of the oldest African Studies programs in the United States and one of the first graduate to offer a multidisciplinary curriculum. Over the decades it has achieved international recognition for its commitment to teaching, research, and publications, and has been recognized as a National Resource Center for African Language and Area Studies by the United States Department of Education. In addition to IJAHS (now in its 34th year), the Center has published a wide range of working papers, monographs, edited collections, and documents series, and is preparing a new series, Critical Themes in African Studies. of historical
analysis. The extensive book review section provides a thorough review
