Established in 1953, the African Studies Center at Boston University is one of the oldest African Studies programs in the United States and one of the first graduate to offer a multidisciplinary curriculum. Over the decades it has achieved international recognition for its commitment to teaching, research, and publications, and has been recognized as a National Resource Center for African Language and Area Studies by the United States Department of Education. In addition to IJAHS (now in its 34th year), the Center has published a wide range of working papers, monographs, edited collections, and documents series, and is preparing a new series, Critical Themes in African Studies. African Historical Studies) is devoted to the study of the African past.
Articles in English on all aspects of Africa's history are welcome—from
prehistoric archaeology to the present problems of the continent, including
interactions between Africa and the Afro-American peoples of the New World—as long as they are based on historical research and framed in terms
of historical
analysis. The extensive book review section provides a thorough review
of the current literature dealing with Africa's past. |
