Notes features interesting, informative, and well-written articles in the areas of music librarianship, music bibliography, the music trade, discography, and digital media, and on certain aspects of music history. Quarterly columns include scholarly book and music reviews, lists of books and music recently received, and an inventory of new music publishers' catalogs. Columns devoted to new periodicals and reviews of digital media and sound recordings appear regularly. Annual columns include "Prices of Music Monographs and Scores" and "Necrology Index." The journal serves members of the MLA and other readers interested in music libraries, bibliography, and the music trade.
