The British Educational Research Journal is an international medium for the publication of articles of interest to researchers in education and has rapidly become a major focal point for the publication of educational research from throughout the world.

The journal is interdisciplinary in approach, and includes reports of case studies, experiments and surveys, discussions of conceptual and methodological issues and of underlying assumptions in educational research, accounts of research in progress, and book reviews.

The British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies is a refereed academic journal published for the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies (popularly known as BRISMES). The editors aim to maintain a balance in the Journal's coverage between the modern social sciences and the more traditional disciplines associated with Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies. They welcome scholarly contributions on all aspects of the Middle East from the end of classical antiquity and the rise of Islam. Articles on the language, literature, history, politics, economics, anthropology, sociology, geography, and the religions and cultures of the region are encouraged.

The British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies also includes a vigorous review section covering publications on all subjects connected with the Middle East. This incorporates a wide range of reference and bibliographical material seldom reviewed elsewhere.

British Journal of Sociology of Education publishes academic articles from throughout the world which contribute to both theory and empirical research in the sociology of education. The journal attempts to reflect the variety of perspectives current in the field. In order to ensure that all articles are of the highest quality, all contributions are submitted to at least two referees before acceptance for publication. Apart from the main articles each issue will normally contain a review essay, an extended review and a review symposium on a major book or collection of books.

Comparative Education is an international journal of educational studies that contains up-to-date information with analyses of significant problems and trends world-wide. The journal focuses specifically on the implications of comparative studies in the formation and implementation of policies in education, and social, national, and international development. Comparative Education welcomes contributions from associated disciplines which affect educational policy decisions: government, management, sociology, technology, and communications.

The Editors' decision to change the title of the long-established Soviet Studies, first published in 1949, followed the collapse of the Soviet Union at the end of 1991. It reflected the belief that as a result the countries of the former Soviet and East European area would gradually become more closely linked with both Europe and Asia, while continuing to present distinctive topics for research as a result of their specific experience.

Soviet Studies was the principal academic journal in the world devoted to the political, economic and social affairs of what were once the Soviet bloc countries, including their history during the Soviet period.

Europe-Asia Studies continues to focus on this body of research topics. At the same time, the new title is intended to reflect the way in which the transformation of these countries' political and economic systems is affecting their relationship with the rest of Europe, and the growing links between what was Soviet Central Asia and other countries in both Europe and Asia.

Folklore is a fully peer-reviewed international journal of folklore and folkloristics. It is one of the earliest English-language journals in the field of folkloristics, first published as The Folk-Lore Record in 1878. It publishes ethnographical and analytical essays on vernacular culture worldwide, specializing in traditional language, narrative, music, song, dance, drama, food ways, medicine, arts and crafts, and popular religion and belief. It reviews current scholarship in a wide range of adjacent disciplines including cultural studies, popular culture, cultural anthropology, ethnology, and social history. Folklore prides itself on its special mix of ethnography, analysis and debate, formal and informal articles, reviews, essays, and bibliographies. It encompasses both North American and European approaches to the study of folklore and covers not only the materials and processes of folklore, but also the history, methods, and theory of folkloristics. The journal aims to be lively, informative, and accessible, while maintaining high standards of scholarship.

The Journal of African Cultural Studies is an international journal providing a forum for perceptions of African culture from inside and outside Africa, with a special commitment to African scholarship. It focuses on dimensions of African culture including African literatures both oral and written, performance arts, visual arts, music, the role of the media, the relationship between culture and power, as well as issues within such fields as popular culture in Africa, sociolinguistic topics of cultural interest, and culture and gender.

It has evolved from the journal African Languages and Cultures, founded in 1988 in the Department of the Languages and Cultures of Africa at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. Although the journal no longer carries articles on African languages that are primarily linguistic in character, it remains strongly interested in the languages of Africa as channels for the expression of their culture. All views expressed are those of the authors and are not necessarily those of the editors.

Journal of Southern African Studies is an international publication for work of high academic quality. It aims to generate fresh scholarly inquiry and exposition in the fields of history, economics, sociology, demography, social anthropology, geography, administration, law, political science, international relations, literature and the natural sciences, in so far as they relate to the human condition. It represents a deliberate effort to draw together the various disciplines in social science and its allied fields. Southern Africa represents a unique opportunity for the study of a wide variety of social problems.

The journal presents work, which reflects new theoretical approaches, and work, which discusses the methodological framework in general use by students of the area. The region covered embraces the following countries: the Republic of South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland; Angola and Mozambique; Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe; and occasionally, Zaire, Tanzania, Madagascar and Mauritius.

The object of the Oxford Review of Education is to advance the study of education. It especially wishes to promote the elaboration and evaluation of a body of speculative and empirical theory, the development of which might improve educational practice. The journal publishes papers on the theory and practice of education from scholars throughout the world in a variety of disciplines: philosophy, political science, economics, history, anthropology, sociology, psychology and medicine.

The Editorial Board seeks to provide a common forum and, on occasion, a focal point of controversy for the discussion of research findings, of historical and contemporary issues and of the functioning of educational institutions.

World Archaeology is the only journal established specifically to deal with archaeology on a world-wide multiperiod basis and thirty years after it was founded it remains the leader in its field. Each issue is dedicated to one theme of current interest and the papers adopt a broad comparative approach, looking at important issues on a global scale. The members of the editorial board and the advisory board represent a wide range of interests and expertise and this ensures that the papers published in World Archaeology cover a wide variety of subject areas.
